The perks of working for a community bank
Working at HomeStreet Bank is like being a part of a family. HomeStreet fosters a sense of community among its employees that makes coming to work every day a joy. My name is Nathan Messerschmidt, Branch Manager at our Ballard on 24th location. I’ve been with HomeStreet Bank for eight years and counting, and I want to share my experience and why I love working here.

When I joined HomeStreet, my career path started as a Customer Service Supervisor at our Queen Anne branch. It was here that I quickly learned the benefit of working for a community bank. The branch looked and felt like someone’s well-cared-for, perfectly crafted home with a fireplace—all warm and cozy. The branch was a central hub for neighbors in the community to hang out, have a cup of coffee, read the newspaper, eat freshly baked cookies, and chat with fellow friends—not just a place for banking needs.

One of the significant advantages of working for HomeStreet is the opportunity for career advancement. The company recognizes the importance of investing in its employees and provides various opportunities for professional growth, including training programs, mentoring, and coaching to help employees succeed and grow. That sentiment is true for my career journey. Through my time here, I’ve worked at four branches as a Supervisor, Trainer, Assistant Manager, and now Branch Manager.

Championing HomeStreet’s values through diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
One of the things I appreciate most about working at HomeStreet is the bank’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workforce. HomeStreet recognizes that having a diverse workforce is critical to their success. HomeStreet is dedicated to recruiting and retaining employees from all backgrounds. I personally identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and I feel seen, heard, and valued. Every June, I co-organize HomeStreet’s participation in the Seattle Pride Parade. It feels great to work for a company that recognizes you, your community and sees the value in supporting all walks of life.

HomeStreet Bank’s values are: being customer-focused, one team, excellence, spirit to serve, and all in. These values are not just empty words; they are deeply ingrained in every aspect of the company's operations. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a fulfilling and rewarding career.
