Down Payment Assistance Programs

Down Payment Assistance Programs

Owning a home in Arizona is a dream for many, but not everyone has a huge down payment. Good news! There are several fantastic Down Payment Assistance (DPA) programs available.

AzHFA’s HOME Plus program offers a grant that can be used for down payment assistance or closing costs for homes purchased in Arizona. Some other features of this program include:        

  • Up to 5% of loan amount is provided as a non-repayable grant
  • Buyer must intend to occupy the home as their primary residence
  • Household income must be below $92,984
  • Eligible properties include single-family homes, townhomes, condos and manufactured homes with a purchase price below $371,936
  • Homebuyer must attend a free education course which can be found on MGIC for Homebuyers' site.

Qualified buyers in Maricopa County can take advantage of Home in Five, a grant that provides up to 3.5% of the loan amount as a non-repayable grant. It can be used for down payment or closing costs. Other good things to know include:

  • Increased assistance for qualified military personnel (4.5% of loan amount)
  • Income and debt ratio limitations apply
  • Eligible properties including single-family homes, townhomes, condos and manufactured homes with a maximum purchase price $300,000
  • Buyer must intend to occupy the Maricopa County home as their primary residence
  • Homebuyer must attend free education course; visit the HUD website to find a class

Make one application to determine which programs you can qualify for

AzHFA’s HOME Plus
Grant for up to 5% of the loan amount

  • Household income must be below $92,984
  • Home’s price must be below $371,936

Home in Five
Grant for up to 4% of the loan amount, determined by credit score

  • Household income must be below $88,340
  • Buyers in qualifying public service roles receive special incentives
