While I should admit that I did not research lenders, I have to say that I feel very fortunate to have been referred to Ryan and Natalie. I was connected to Ryan through my first real estate agent back in 2011 when I first started the home buying process. My agent was a former high school classmate whose family had long been in the market and Ryan was family friend and colleague. I was fresh out of grad school at the time and landed my first salaried position. I had no idea what I was getting into and if I could even afford to buy a house as a young, single, new professional. Nevertheless, Ryan welcomed me to his office and educated me on everything I needed to know. I was and still am incredibly impressed with his professionalism, work ethic, patience, and uncanny ability to find ways to make the numbers work! That being said, he is honest and will not misguide you.
2011 wasn’t my time. I realized I didn’t know what I wanted and what I thought I wanted, I couldn’t afford. Ryan was completely understanding of my position. He wished me the best and encouraged me to stay in touch. In May of 2013, my dream of homeownership was reignited by an old farmhouse in Beacon Hill. I saw the listing on a Friday and contacted Ryan out of nowhere asking if he could run some numbers for me. By Monday, Ryan had gotten back to me with good news just in time for me to attend the open houses that week. With interest rates at a low, I qualified for the asking price. I made my first ever offer, but unfortunately, the house went for $60k over the list price. Needless to say, I was discouraged.
I kept my eye on the market over the next couple of months and stayed in touch with Ryan and was introduced to Natalie. Interest rates rose during these months and I found my buying power diminished. I was frustrated and felt like I was back in 2011 oscillating between a single family home in the outskirts or a condo in the city. I probably drove Ryan and Natalie crazy! I didn’t realize what I had with them until I stumbled upon a coop in one of my favorite neighborhoods. As you may know, coops are an entirely different beast, requiring specially licensed lenders. I had to work with someone else for this and it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The lender never returned my calls, didn’t explain the process to me, ran my credit against my wishes, and made me feel like a waste of her time. I ended up finding another coop lender who was very helpful, but I realized how much Ryan had done for me early in the process to help me feel comfortable, education, and supported in a very intimidating process. I made an offer on the coop, but the sellers didn’t accept it and I am so grateful!
In August, I again came across a listing that got my hopes up. It was a single family home in Seward Park and checked all of my “must have” boxes. The listing was up late Friday, I drove by the house on Saturday and then emailed Ryan, called the listing agent, and scheduled an inspection all that same day and attended the open house on Sunday. I had an inspection done on Monday at 6am, wrote my offer all day Monday, submitted it by 4pm, my agent (Monique Harris Jones) presented it in person at 6pm and by 8pm I found out my offer was accepted!
During the offer writing process I was back and forth with Ryan and Natalie running different scenarios. My parents were helping out with the down payment and there were a bunch of ways to handle that. Monique and I wanted to make sure I didn’t lose the house for a nominal difference in down payment or other things. Ryan and Natalie were there every step of the way.
Through closing, my main contact was Natalie. She is a great communicator and made sure that I knew what was going on and what I needed to do to ensure we closed on time. In fact, we could even have closed early had it not been for the seller’s schedule. I kept pushing the early close, which Ryan and Natalie were very conservative and realistic about. But in the end, we could have done it because all of us (Ryan, Natalie, and I) were so on top of it!
Anyway, this is probably more info that you wanted. But the short answer to your question is I can’t recommend Ryan and Natalie enough. Nothing could have been done differently and they are a great team. Ryan and Natalie are true professionals who value their clients. I was never made to feel unworthy of their time or expertise. While I don’t think I am high maintenance, when I reflect on all the different twists and turns in my story, I am sure I wasn’t always easy to manage!
O & K - Shoreline
We were referred to Ryan from a friend that works in the 'Green Construction' industry. Upon meeting Ryan, we instantly felt comfortable and were confident Ryan would do what he could to get us qualified for our first home. Over the next few months, we worked through various scenarios; the turn around from Ryan and his colleague Natalie was always on time whenever we were in a competing offer situation and needed to know what our mortgage would look like.
Once we were ready to make an offer, and get down to signing documents, Ryan locked a great rate in for my wife and I. The transaction went smoothly, and most correspondence was via email through Natalie who had a clear list of what and when something was needed.
