HomeStreet Community Housing Awards

community housing awards logo2007

Puget Sound Region

  • FUSION – An all-volunteer, grass roots, non-profit, FUSION raises funds to provide transitional housing and support services to homeless women and their children in the Federal Way/South King County region.  The award was used for projected operational costs of FUSION’s tenth transitional housing unit.

  • Intercommunity Mercy Housing – This organization develops affordable housing and provides on-site supportive services in Washington state.  They used the award to provide their Service-Enriched Housing model for residents moving back into the newly renovated 43-unit Catalina Apartments in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood.

  • Seattle Children’s Home – Having evolved several times since 1884, Seattle Children’s Home (SCH) now serves as Washington’s first comprehensive mental health center for children.  SCH used the award to support their efforts to help the 18-year-olds who age out of their services to obtain and maintain appropriate housing—lowering their risk of homelessness.

  • Senior Services – This organization provides a wide array of services for older adults.  Senior Services used the award for their Minor Home Repair program.  The program enables seniors to take care of minor home repair problems before they become major issues, threatening the safely and well-being of the homeowner.

  • Snohomish County Center for Battered Women – The mission of this organization is to end domestic violence by providing a wide range of services to victims of domestic violence and facilitating change.  The award was used to help families staying in the shelter move into transitional housing.

Oregon and Southwest Washington

  • Catholic Charities Housing Transitions Program – This program of Catholic Charities provides permanent supportive housing and housing retention services to chronically homeless single women, assists them in securing income and provides opportunities to help them rebuild their life.

  • Portland Habitat for Humanity – This organization builds houses and helps families in need purchase a simple, decent, affordable home.  The award was used to build two bedrooms for four children in a soon to be completed home in Portland.

Hawaii

  • Habitat for Humanity Leeward Oahu – This organization builds houses and helps families in need purchase a simple, decent, affordable home.  The award was used to purchase cabinets, countertops and electrical fixtures for two Habitat homes.

2006

Puget Sound Region

  • Abused Deaf Women’s Advocacy Services – This organization addresses the needs of deaf, deaf-blind and hard of hearing victims of domestic violence, in ways that agencies oriented to hearing victims are unable to do.

  • Helping Hand House – For over 20 years, Helping Hand House has worked to prevent and end homelessness in Pierce County. Its programs include courses on budgeting for low-income families, providing emergency housing for homeless families and operating a transitional housing program.

  • Homestead Community Land Trust (HCLT) – This program enables low- to moderate-income families to purchase a home through education, counseling, pre- and post-purchase support and purchase assistance grants. The land under the house remains within HCLT’s land trust and is permanently resale price restricted, so that the house remains "affordable" to the next low- to moderate-income owners.

  • Springboard Alliance – This organization partners with Hopelink, Friends of Youth and Catholic Community Services to help homeless individuals and families gain the skills necessary for long-term self-sufficiency.

Oregon and Southwest Washington

  • Bradley-Angle House – The mission of this organization is to offer survivors of domestic and sexual violence options for safety, self-empowerment, healing and hope.

  • Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives, Inc. (PCRI) – This organization preserves and manages affordable, high quality, single family and small multifamily homes in 27 neighborhoods throughout the City of Portland.

  • REACH Community Development, Inc. – For approximately 25 years, REACH has provided safe and affordable housing, resident services and community revitalization programs for Portland residents with low to moderate incomes. It has developed or preserved over 1,000 units of housing, including apartments for residents with special needs, homeless individuals and seniors.

Hawaii

  • Habitat for Humanity Maui – This organization builds homes and provides homeownership education, budget counseling and credit counseling to enable low-income families to successfully own homes.
